So, if you have been following us you know we bought a bus and that it’s already been one hell of a ride. But, do you even know why? Have we actually explained our plan and vision for the future? Not really – we kinda suck that way, I guess. Join us as we begin planning a skoolie adventure!
There were 3 goals that we had in mind when we began our daydreaming about the nomadic lifestyle. If you don’t know what that means – a nomadic lifestyle is when a group of people, quite literally, have no permanent place they live. Back when the term originated, nomadic groups moved around to find fresh pasture for their livestock and game to hunt.
We don’t have any livestock (man, Jude would LOVE that) but we have an appreciation for the lifestyle. The idea that you are not stuck in one place anymore. If we wanted to up and leave, we could! If we wanted to go visit a really cool place, we could! Sounds nice, right?
Back to our 3 goals.
Goal #1: Work in order to LIVE not LIVE in order to WORK.
Goal #2: Simplify our lives to focus on what truly matters.
Goal #3: Cut ties with how society thinks we should live and pave our own road.
Planning a Skoolie Adventure | Our Process
Our plan with Regina is as follows:
Step 1. Full convert Regina into a tiny home on wheels
This means that Regina will be gutted and rebuilt from the ground up. She will be equipped with new electrical, new ceilings, walls, and floors, a composting toilet, functional shower, kitchen, and stove, a queen bed, couch, desk space for work, mobile wifi connection, an awesome speaker system, wood burning stove and a space for Jude to call his own.
She is also going to have a rooftop deck (for maximizing the amazing views) and solar panels to recharge our energy system.
This girl is going to be equipped to function off-grid for at least a week. This means that we can go see those hard-to-reach places and stay for a while. We don’t always have to be near a gym to shower or a plug-in to charge our batteries.
And let me just throw this in there – she is going to be BEAUTIFUL (kinda like this one). I LOVE creating beautiful, cozy spaces and this is the first time that I will be in control (well, me and Tyler ;). I am so excited to build this badass space!!!
During the conversion process, we will also be building our revenue streams and finding remote jobs for when we start to travel.
Step 2. Sell our possessions and live full-time in Regina
When Regina is close to finished (hoping for around 1-year conversion) we will then sell all of our things. This means selling all of our furniture, cars, and anything that we cannot easily fit on the bus. This is also probably when we will buy a motorbike of some sort to store on the back of the bus for easy travel for errands.
Once we have sold all of our things, have our remote jobs, and pick our first destination, off we go! After that, we will travel as quickly and as far as feels right. We will have no timeline, no hurry, just enjoying the journey as we go.
If we find a place that we love, maybe we stay there for a week or two – maybe even more before we head off to a new spot. We decide because it’s OUR lives.
Step 3. Remember what truly matters in this life
We are going to learn so much from this nomadic experience. I am so excited to see how it transforms our marriage and our view of the world. I truly believe we are going to see and feel what is most important in this life of ours.
It’s not a car, house, a job, our phones, how much money we have, or how famous we are. What truly matters are the people we meet and love along the way. The relationships we build with others and within our own marriage. What truly matters are the people around you and taking care of this beautiful earth we were given.
We hope you resonate with some of our ideas and are enjoying reading about our journey. We want to bring you with us – on the ups and the downs (there have been some and there will be more!). It brings us so much joy to hear from YOU!
Thanks for stopping by and giving us a little piece of your day!
